80, 82, 86 South Bridge, Airdrie

4 Anderson Street in Airdrie is a 2-storey, 3-bay, L-plan tenement building dating from 1870. It features a bow front and gabled corners, with shops located on the ground floor. The exterior is constructed from yellow ashlar sandstone and includes a moulded dividing band between the stories, as well as a projecting eaves course cornice. The upper storey windows have cavetto moulded margins and consoled cills.

On the principal elevation, which is three bays wide and bowed, there are modern shop fronts at ground level and regular window arrangements on the first floor. A battered wallhead stack sits on a plinth to the right and is dated 1870. The outer left has a double bay with blocked quoins flanking a 4-light, semicircular-arched window that features pilastered stone mullions.

The northeast side elevation also has modern shop fronts at ground level and regular fenestration on the upper storey. The northwest side elevation is obscured by an adjoining building, while the southwest side elevation has a blind end wall.

The building has 4-pane timber sash and case windows, grey slate roofing with lead flashing, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The gable stacks are broad and coped. The interiors feature modern shop fittings on the ground floor, while the upper storey was not seen in 2001.
