16 Anderson Street, Airdrie

28 Anderson Street in Airdrie is a terrace of four classical townhouses built around 1840. These two-storey, three-bay houses feature a symmetrical design and are constructed from harled, squared sandstone rubble. Notable architectural elements include a base course, eaves course, and a projecting cornice, along with plain moulded margins and projecting consoled cills for the windows.

No. 28, the taller end property, has a timber-panelled door at the center, flanked by a slightly projecting pilastered porch that supports a projecting cornice with a small blocked pediment above. There is a single window above the door, and bipartite, stone mullioned windows in the outer bays. The rear elevation includes a flat-roofed extension at the center and right, a semicircular arched stair window on the upper storey, a door to the right, and an external cast-iron walkway with steps down to the left. The west side elevation features a blind gable end, while the east side elevation abuts the adjoining terrace.

No. 26 mirrors No. 28's principal elevation but has a plain projecting margin above the central doorway. The rear elevation features a bowed projecting stair tower at the center with a pitched roof. The side elevations also abut the terrace row.

Nos. 20, 22, and 24 have a panelled timber door at the center of their principal elevation, with a window to the immediate left, a bipartite window to the outer left, and a window to the right. The upper storey has a window at the center, a bipartite window to the left, and a window to the right. The rear elevation includes a stair tower at the center, and the side elevations abut the terrace row.

Nos. 16 and 18 feature a three-bay design with regular fenestration. No. 16 has a modern shop front at the ground level and a pend entrance to the far left. The rear elevation shows irregular fenestration, while the west side elevation abuts the terrace row and the east side elevation has a blind gable end.

The houses to the left of the center have plate glass, timber frame sash and case windows, while those to the right feature 4-pane timber sash and case windows. The roofs are covered with grey slates and lead flashing, and there are coped paired gable stacks along with cast-iron rainwater goods.
