Machrie Farm, Arran

Machrie Farm is a mid 19th century farmhouse with late 19th century baronial embellishments. It is a two-storey, three-bay, L-plan building with a single-storey former service wing extending to the rear. The structure is built of red sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. The windows are margined with 12-pane timber sash and case glazing, and the building has margined angles with small corbelled flat-topped bartizans at the top, crowstepped gables, and coped ashlar stacks.

The front elevation includes a crowstepped gable porch with a wide pointed window, a door on the left return, and a window on the right. There are additional windows on the main elevation, with three windows on the first floor.

On the right return elevation, there is a gable to the left with a ground floor window, and the wing to the right has three windows on the ground floor and one on the first floor. There is also a further single-storey wing in two sections at the far right with various windows.

The left return elevation features a gable to the right with windows on both the ground and first floors. There is a window and a French window on the ground floor, along with two windows on the first floor at a recessed wing to the left, which includes a conically-roofed integral stair tower at the re-entrant angle. Additionally, there is a two-bay single-storey wing at the far left and a four-bay single-storey wing to the outer left, along with a modern lean-to conservatory.
