Description
The Stables and Kennels at Dougarie Lodge on Arran date from the earlier 19th century and feature considerable additions. The building forms an irregular U-shaped courtyard that includes a three-storey domestic tower house, stables, kennels, and various outbuildings, all designed in a picturesque, castellated style. The structure is built from grey and buff rubble with red sandstone ashlar dressings and has slate roofs. Windows include sash and case as well as casement styles, with some being latticed. The design features ashlar-coped skews and crowstepped gables.
The front elevation includes a curtain wall at the center that is designed to look ruinous at the parapet, a pointed-arch entrance, and arrow-slit openings. To the left, the tower house features a saddleback-roofed stair tower and a lower lean-to.
