Description
The stables at Rammerscales House, dated 1804, may include some earlier elements. This courtyard stable block has been partially converted for domestic use. It is a single-storey structure with lofts and attics, built from whitewashed rubble with contrasting red ashlar margins. The building forms three ranges around a cobbled courtyard, with screen walls on the east side featuring tall rusticated ashlar gatepiers. Each gable facing east has a pointed window.
The northern range has been converted for domestic use, with a central flat-headed opening that is now blocked. Above this is a round-arched window with a dated keystone and a finialled pediment. The western range features a cast-iron columned shelter facing the courtyard and projects forward from the northern elevation, with a modern garage attached. The detached southern range was built in two phases and includes kennels at the southwest corner. The stables have small-paned sash windows and slated roofs.
