Description

Stottencleugh Farmhouse is an early 19th century, 3-bay farmhouse that features classical detailing and has been made into an L-plan by a later 19th century wing to the north. The building is two storeys high and constructed of rubble sandstone, which is squared and coursed on the south elevation, complemented by ashlar dressings, raised quoins, and eaves and base courses.

On the south elevation, there is a broad, pilastered doorpiece at the center with a tripartite door set in a segmental archway. This includes a panelled door with side lights and a fanlight above. Flanking the door are recessed segmental panels, each inset with tripartite windows that feature stone pilaster mullions and blind tympana. The first floor has three windows.

The north elevation shows a stair window from the original house at the center, which is partly obscured by a piend-roofed porch located in the re-entrant angle and by a two-storey extension to the north on the right, which has two narrow windows on the ground floor.

The west elevation is four bays wide, with two windows on each floor of the original house. The left extension has more closely grouped windows, with a single window on the ground floor and two on the first floor, one of which has been inserted on the outer left.

The sash and case windows feature a 12-pane glazing pattern, with two windows made of plate glass. There are wallhead stacks at the gable ends of the early 19th century house, one made of stone and heightened in brick, and the other entirely in brick. The roof is slated with lead flashings, and some original cans have been retained.

Inside, there is a winding stair with a plain balustrade.
