22 James Street, Stornoway, Lewis

22 James Street in Stornoway, Lewis, is a double villa built in 1884. This symmetrical, two-storey building also has an attic storey and features neo-Jacobean gables on the front. The exterior is finished with modern dry-dash and has ashlar dressings, along with modern glazing. The villa has four bays arranged in a 1-2-1 pattern, with the two inner bays containing paired doorways beneath a shaped gable. The ground floor windows are canted, and the window on the right (No 24) still has its original cast-iron cresting. The building has apex stacks and a slate roof, with flat-roofed dormers over the outer bays, which are positioned close to the roof ridge and have been rebuilt. The modern concrete skews are also noted. Surrounding the property is a boundary wall topped with plain, spiked cast-iron railings, and the original gates are still in place.
