18 James Street in Stornoway, Lewis, is a symmetrical two-storey double villa built around 1883 to 1885, based on the style of nearby houses. The villa features neo-Jacobean shaped gables on the front and is constructed of rubble, with most detailing painted and modern glazing. It has four bays arranged in a 1-2-1 pattern, with the inner two bays containing paired doorways beneath the shaped gable. A consoled hood connects the doors, and a hood-mould links the windows above. The ground floor windows are canted, and the dormer heads above have globe finials. The building has apex stacks and a slate roof, with small skylights illuminating the attics. A low boundary wall along the street is topped with decorative cast-iron railings that extend along Lewis Street, featuring three particularly elaborate original cast-iron gates.
