Description

4 Garden Road in Stornoway, Lewis, is a pair of identical 19th-century villas, each two stories high and featuring three bays. They are designed in an L-shape and are connected by a long, low garden wall that fronts the street, topped with decorative cast-iron railings. The buildings are constructed from rubble with squared dressings, and they have single and mullioned windows, slate roofs, and sash windows. Each villa has end stacks and an entrance located in the inner bay, with gabled dormer heads that extend above the eaves. The villa on the left (No 2) has skews that run horizontally over the skewputts, while the villa on the right does not have this feature (though it likely did originally). The right villa also has painted margins and a cornice above the ground floor gable window. Additionally, the property includes original cast iron gates.
