Tower Guest House, 32 James Street, Stornoway, Lewis

The Tower Guest House, located at 32 James Street in Stornoway, Lewis, dates back to 1885. This crow-stepped villa is situated on a street corner and features two storeys with an attic. It has a three-bay L-shaped front that includes a crenellated entrance tower in the re-entrant angle and a consoled hood over the doorway. The building is constructed from squared rubble with dressings and painted details, featuring a mix of modern glazing and some original sash windows. The outer bays have three-light windows, while the right side has a canted and crenellated ground floor window, with a corresponding window to the left in a projecting square bay that has stop-chamfered features. The first floor windows have (?timber) mullions. The villa has corniced apex stacks and a slate roof. The flank elevation facing Matheson Street is plainer, with crow-stepped gables and dormer heads above the eaves level. The property is enclosed by a low boundary wall topped with decorative cast-iron railings and features original gates.
