Description
Earlier/mid 19th century. Late Georgian-style, 2 storeys, and uncommonly deep on plan with unwindowed north flank, modern addition on south flank. Front is flat, painted ashlar, symmetrical, 5 bays with centre door, 1st floor cill band (1st floor windows are taller), sash windows with 6-pane glazing (2-pane upper, 4-pane lower sashes9 and original panelled shutters inside. (Addition has 2 bays, harled, but is similarly proportioned and glazed). Piended slate roof, presumably with flat platform also, pair stacks set cross-ways towards rear may surmount a spinal cross-wall. 3-bay rear elevation is altered, with projecting centre stair/lift shaft, low link to modern addition; right-hand bay unaltered, margined window at each level, each multi-paned (16-pane) sash and case. Boundary wall has been breached to enable car access to rear car park, but where it survives, it retains original cast-iron railings, and the overthrow arch is unique in the Outer Isles.
