Description

The Station Hotel, located on Station Road in Selkirk, dates from the mid-19th century and may incorporate earlier materials. It features a three-storey structure with a later attic and a five-bay tenement, along with a single-storey wing to the southeast. The exterior is finished in painted render with painted ashlar dressings, including a base course, a moulded cill course on the first and second floors, a cornice, and a blocking course.

On the northeast elevation, the three-storey bays are arranged in a group of three and two. The attic windows have alternating triangular and segmental pedimented dormer heads, which break the quasi parapet. There is a central door in the three-bay group, framed by an ashlar doorpiece topped with a small segmental pediment. Each floor above has a window, with additional windows in each flanking bay. The ground floor features a window in each bay of the two-bay group, with the right bay augmented by a two-leaf modern boarded door. The single-storey piended wing to the left is slightly set back and includes a round-arched window.

The southwest elevation was not visible in 1995. The building has a variety of windows, primarily plate glass timber sash and case windows. The roof is slate, featuring coped skews and skewputts, with wallhead stacks.

The interior was not seen in 1995.

To the southeast, there are sandstone ashlar square-plan gatepiers with pyramidal coping, with one gatepier adjacent to the single-storey wing.
