Description

Stanley Place, located on Dell Road in Campbeltown, is a late 19th-century two-storey and attic tenement building with a basement, featuring three symmetrical bays and classical architectural details. The exterior is constructed with stugged squared and snecked sandstone walls, complemented by polished sandstone ashlar dressings on the main facade. The southeast gable is roughcast, while the rear elevation is made of random rubble, and the northwest gable has stugged ashlar dressings. A cill course is present at the first floor, along with a band course at the eaves. The building's elevations are framed with margins, and the windows are architraved and corniced, featuring bracketed cills on the main front, while the rear windows are margined.

The southwest elevation facing Dell Road consists of three bays, with a broad central bay that includes two windows at the basement level beneath an entrance platt. This entrance features a corniced and pilastered tripartite doorpiece, with a plaque centered above and flanking windows. The outer bays on both floors have bipartite windows.

The northeast rear elevation is symmetrical with five bays, regularly fenestrated, and features a yellow brick apsidal stair tower projecting at the center, which includes a round-arched stair window.

The building has timber sash and case windows, with plate glass on the principal front, 4-pane windows at the rear, and an 18-pane fixed-light window at the stair with colored and patterned glass. The entrance doors are six-panel, two-leaf timber doors. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are cast-iron gutters and downpipes, profiled at the principal front with a hopper on the outer left. Piend-roofed slate-hung timber dormers with finials are located on the front and rear pitches over the outer bays, featuring plate glass timber sash and case windows, except for the 4-pane center lights at the rear. Metal-clad segmental-arched timber dormers flank a wallhead stack at the principal front. The building has 16-flue random rubble and brick apex stacks at the gables, which are corniced with circular cans, and a four-flue shouldered stugged ashlar wallhead stack centered on the principal front, also with a cornice and octagonal cans.

Surrounding the property, there is a random rubble dwarf wall along Dell Road topped with an ashlar cope, which is surmounted by decorative cast-iron railings, complete with cast-iron gates and piers.
