Description
Ardenmohr, located on Pier Road in Rhu, is a mid-19th century building with later additions. It is a two-storey structure over a raised basement, featuring a five-bay, nearly symmetrical rectangular plan, with a single-storey wing extension at the rear. The exterior is finished in white-painted harl with painted ashlar margins and dressings, a base course, and quoin strips. The building has projecting eaves and exposed timbers.
On the southwest (principal) elevation, there are three central bays. A loggia with three round arches, added in the 20th century, is located here, along with modern steps and cast iron railings at the center. The central window, which was formerly a door, is flanked by two modern doors that were previously windows. The first floor has three windows arranged symmetrically. To the outer right, there is a gable with a full-height canted bay that has a dividing cornice, while the outer left features a block with a projecting tripartite window.
The northeast elevation includes a gable to the outer left, with a modern door at ground level and a window on the first floor. To the right, there are three bays with a single-storey, L-plan service block that is advanced at ground level. The roof features two gabled dormers at the center, a window to the left, a small window at the center, and a tall stair window to the right. The taller outer right block has a single window.
The building has lying-pane sash and case windows, with 8-pane sash and case dormers. The roof is covered with grey slate and features harled, coped ridge stacks with octagonal cans.
