The Cottage, Gareloch Road, Rhu

The Cottage on Gareloch Road in Rhu is a single storey and attic gabled cottage built in the earlier to mid 19th century, before 1853. It features painted harl with sandstone margins and dressings, a base course, quoin strips, chamfered reveals, and raised cills. The cottage has projecting eaves and exposed rafters.

The southeast elevation has three bays, with a door located off-centre to the right, which is sheltered by a modern trellised porch. Above the door is a gabled dormer, and there is a window to the right, along with a broad gabled bay on the outer left.

The southwest elevation consists of four bays, with a broad gable on the outer right. It has a window at the ground level and another at the gablehead, with a smaller upper window. There is a three-bay single storey wing that features two gabled dormers, arranged symmetrically. The cottage has 8-pane sash and case windows with secondary glazing, while the dormers have 4-pane windows. The roof is covered with grey slate, and the dormers are slate hung, with rendered, coped ridge stacks.

The interior was not seen in 1993. The boundary wall is made of rubble with semi-circular coping, although a hedge has now grown above the wall.
