Greenside Cottage, Church Road, Rhu

Greenside Cottage, located on Church Road in Rhu, dates from the earlier to mid 19th century. This single-storey cottage features a symmetrical, rectangular plan with three bays arranged in a 2-1 grouping. It is constructed of squared rubble with polished sandstone margins and dressings, and has quoin strips.

On the west elevation, there is a central door with a 6-pane upper glazed portion and a blocked letterbox fanlight above it. A wrought-iron overthrow and a trellis porch frame the entrance, with flanking windows on either side. The cottage has three half-pitched roof slate-hung dormers that are symmetrically placed, with the central dormer being smaller. The windows include 4 over 6 lying-pane sash and case windows, while the dormers have 4-pane sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and features lead flashings, along with a corniced sandstone apex stack located at the right end of the roof.

Additionally, the property is enclosed by pointed, cast-iron arrowhead railings.
