Description
The War Memorial located on Church Road in Rhu was designed by A N Paterson and Stoddart around 1920. It is situated in the village green outside the south wall of the Church of Scotland churchyard. The memorial is made of granite with polished granite dressings and features a Celtic cross adorned with panels of interlacing designs, along with a wreath on the lowest panel of the shaft. The names of the fallen are inscribed on the pedestal base, which includes the phrase "greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friend" on the lowest panel. Surrounding the memorial is a low rubble boundary wall with harl pointing and semicircular rubble coping, and there are two steps that lead up to the memorial.
