Description

Caston War Memorial is made of grey Aberdeen granite and is situated in the northern part of a green in the center of the village, at the junction of The Street and Stow Bedon Road in Caston, Norfolk. The memorial features a stylised Celtic wheel-headed cross with knot-work relief carvings, which is set on a tapering shaft and a tapering four-sided plinth that bears inscriptions. This is placed on a two-stepped base. The granite memorial is supported by a wider two-stepped base made of concrete. At each corner of the lowest and outermost step of the concrete base, there are four moulded four-sided posts.

The inscriptions are carved in relief and read: AUG. 4TH 1914 - NOV. 11TH 1918/ TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN MEMORY OF/ (NAMES)// 1939 – 1945/ (NAMES).
