Description
Old Rectory Cottage is a pair of cottages that have been combined into one, dating from the early 17th century and early 19th century. The timber frame is completely covered in brick from the 19th century, and it has a pantiled roof. The building is in an L shape and was originally three cells, featuring one storey and a dormer attic. There is a pantiled gabled entrance porch with a decorated bargeboard. On either side of the porch, there are three-light leaded casement windows with brick hoods on labels. The gabled roofs include three gabled dormers, each with bargeboards and leaded casements. There is a rebuilt stack at the junction of the ranges and a similar stack at the south gable. The south wing dates from the late 17th century and was recased in the mid-18th century, featuring tumbling and burnt headers. Inside, the drawing room has a restored plaster ceiling that includes two angels with spread wings—one holding a mitre and book, and the other holding a staff. The ceiling is further decorated with four large roundels of fleur-de-lys and lotus leaves, along with sixteen small modified Tudor roses, likely dating from the mid-17th century.
