Description

Church Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century and mid 17th century. It is constructed of brick and flint, with plain tiles on the rear roof and concrete tiles on the front. The building has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys high with five bays. The central door is set within a 20th-century flint and timber porch. The ground floor features late 19th-century cross casement windows within brick surrounds, with segmental heads, although one window has been blocked. There is a timber eaves cornice, and the gabled roof, which is now bell-based, was originally straight. The north gable wall, dating from the late 16th century, is supported by a diagonal buttress at the northeast corner. The raised parapet on the gable is originally stepped, and the gable head contains eleven moulded brick trefoil arches arranged in an inverted V shape, with two arches double tiered. There are gable end stacks, and the rear of the main range has 20th-century casements in the original openings, along with a glazed lean-to added in the 1970s. A two-storeyed cross wing features 19th-century sash windows on the ground floor and casements on the first floor. The west gable has a shaped design with two blocked windows in the roof and kneelers at the gable. The gable stack has been rebuilt, and timber wall plates are exposed.
