Old Caledonian Bank, 15 South Beach, Stornoway, Lewis

The Old Caledonian Bank, located at 15 South Beach in Stornoway, Lewis, was built in 1883 and is inscribed with its date. It may have involved reworking an existing building. The structure features classical ornamentation and is two stories tall with three bays. The right-hand corner is angled and also decorated, featuring a second door. The exterior is dry-dashed with ashlar dressings, channeling at the angles and the central main entrance bay. Classical details are prominent, including a three-light window on the ground floor with consoled pediment hoods. The building has a balustraded wall-head and a gabled roof behind, with a pair of modern dormers and end stacks. The original glazing pattern is mostly preserved, with sash windows that are four-paned, and the lower sashes of the central ground floor windows are acid-etched.
