Description
The Church of Scotland in Cross, Lewis, is one of a series of three nearly identical churches built around 1910, with the others located at Garrabost and Barvas. This large box-type church features a piend roof and is designed with tall, narrow round-arched lights arranged in five by three bays. The entrance is located on the west side, showcasing a wide arched doorway positioned between the windows, with a wall-head belfry above. The exterior is finished in dry dash with painted ingoes, and the roof is slated with a simplified axial ventilator; the glazing is modern. A vestry or session house is attached to the east side.
Inside, there is a gallery on the west wall supported by cast-iron columns, with the pulpit located opposite and featuring an arcaded panelled front. The perimeter wall is mostly made of rubble and is dry-dashed on the west side.
