Description
This building at 94 High Street in Elgin is a later 19th-century Gothic structure featuring three storeys and an attic, with a wide single bay. The ground floor has a modern shop front, while the first and second storeys showcase an ashlar facade. Both floors have tripartite windows set in shallow recesses, complete with bracketed balconies that retain their original cast-iron railings. The first-floor windows are adorned with stiff-leaf capitals on the columns that divide the lights and as part of the frieze, featuring stilted pointed-arched decorative heads. The second floor displays foliated capitals on its columns. A corbelled and cable-moulded cornice runs along the top of the building. At the roof, there are two gablet dormers with stone finials, linked by a quatrefoil pierced balustrade. The windows have two-pane glazing, and the building is topped with a slate roof and corniced stacks.
