Description

Late 19th century. 3 storeys and attics with shops at

ground. 6 bays, doors in 1st and 4th, and divided above

ground by plain pilaster strips, eastmost bay a storey

higher forming square turret with truncated steep

pyramidal roof with iron brattishing. Red ashlar,

painted at ground, shop fronts framed by pilasters with

foliated capitals, stilted openings, segmental-headed

at doors and flat over windows (obscured left by modern

fascia). All windows set in recessed panels between

piers. Windows in moulded reveals and mostly square-headed.

1st floor windows with incised tympana below

segmental arches. Small bipartite window under segmental

arch in turret. Plate-glass sash windows; strings at

cill levels; decorative blocking at eaves; 2 piended

dormers; skews; end stacks; slate roofs. Single-bay E

return elevation similarly detailed.
