Description
20 Clifton Road in Lossiemouth is a former warehouse dating from 1629. The building is two stories high and has five bays, and it likely originally included living space on the first floor. It is constructed of rubble with tooled rubble dressings.
The central door features chamfered margins and a relieving arch. To the left, there is a forestair providing access to the first floor, which is now concealed by a later gabled timber porch. The first floor has regular window openings, while the ground floor has a widened window, with all windows displaying chamfered margins.
The building has coped end stacks, with the southern stack featuring an early 17th-century cope that is roll-moulded at both the base and apex. The roof is covered with corrugated asbestos.
Inside, four of the five ground floor bays create a continuous longitudinal area with a rubble barrel vault, and the window openings also have similar vaulting. A datestone from 1629 is now located in the first-floor room, which is used as a restaurant.
