Description
This farmhouse, located in Newton, was built between 1820 and 1830 and may have been constructed in two phases. It is a single-storey house designed in a U-shape. The exterior features harled walls with tooled ashlar margins. The central portion has three bays and a central door that is concealed by a projecting porch, which includes a side entrance and a front window topped with a piended roof. The windows have 12-pane glazing, and there are margined and coped ridge stacks, which have been renewed on the west side, along with a later wallhead stack on the west wing. The roofs are covered with piended slate.
Inside, there is a two-leaf entrance door with long single panels that reflect the style of William Robertson or Archibald Simpson. The interior includes plain moulded cornices and deep skirtings, although some areas require door facings with rosette blocks. The drawing room in the east wing features a cornice and an anthemion frieze, and the doors and shutters are moulded with beaded octagonal panels.
