Description

42-28 Moss Street in Elgin features ornate cast-iron shop fronts from the late 19th century. The building has one 5-bay and one 3-bay shop front that project in front of a 2-storey elevation, which has been altered from an earlier 19th century design. The shop fronts are adorned with Corinthian colonettes topped with still-leaf capitals, a scalloped basecourse, and fretted brackets that create spandrels. The outer pilasters have dies above and are paired in the center.
