Description
28 King Street is a shop building from the late 19th century that has been altered. It features painted stucco on brick and a slate roof, with a narrow rectangular plan positioned at right angles to the street. The building has three storeys and an attic, with a five-light window on the first floor. The ground floor has a double-fronted shop front, likely from the 20th century. The upper floors have continuous arcaded windows, with round-headed arched lights on the first floor and square-headed windows on the second floor. Both sets of windows are set back behind delicate screens of slender cast-iron columns. The first-floor columns have ornamented open-work spandrels, while the second floor features tendril-like arch-bracing at the heads. A prominent cornice with dentils and modillions sits above the second floor. The attic storey has three windows, with a central round-headed two-light window framed in an architrave with a segmental open pediment, flanked by square windows supported by corbel-tables. This building forms a group with No. 30 to the left.
