Description
Quarry Gardens Lodge, located at Gordon Castle, was designed by William Robertson in 1825. This two-storey gate lodge faces west towards the former driveway and features a tooled ashlar front with harled flanks.
The lodge has a canted west front with a central entrance that is sheltered by a single-storey gabled timber porch, which dates from around 1900 and includes a side entrance. The main doorway within the porch has a rectangular fanlight with radial glazing. Long windows light the flanking sides, each set within shallow round-headed recesses, while the smaller first-floor windows are blind on the outer faces.
The lodge has regular two-bay long north and south elevations, with taller ground floor windows and a secondary side entrance on the north elevation. The windows feature 9- and 12-pane glazing, and there is a deep ashlar base course. The wallhead is bracketted, corniced, and crenellated, with a coped centre ridge stack and a shallow piended slate roof. At the rear, there is a modern single-storey harled lean-to.
Inside, the lodge includes a narrow curved staircase with slender wooden balusters and panelled window shutters.
