Description
Edinkillie House is a two-storey house built in 1823 by John Paterson in Edinburgh, featuring a butterfly plan and single-storey outer wings. The exterior is harled with tooled ashlar margins. The house has a two-storey demi-octagonal centre bay that projects to the south, serving as the drawing room, and to the north, which includes a porch with a side entrance. On either side of the centre bay are two-bay sections, with additional single bay end wings that return to create a shallow rear court.
The windows are regularly spaced, with the first-floor windows being slightly shorter and a central first-floor window at the rear. The house features 12-pane glazing throughout, paired coped ridge stacks, and coped end stacks, topped with a shallow piended slate roof that has projecting eaves.
Inside, there is a circular entrance hall that leads to a round drawing room, which includes beaded panelled window shutters and a curved beaded panelled door. Similar beaded window shutters and beaded doors are found throughout the house, including a curved door in the first-floor round centre bedroom. The staircase is located on the west side of the house and features cast-iron balusters with palmette detailing and a curved wooden handrail. The kitchen is situated in the eastern single-storey wing.
