Description
Scurrypool Bridge in Altyre is an early to mid-19th century structure that was extended in 1863 to cross a railway line. The bridge is built of rubble with tooled rubble dressings. It features a high single span segmental arch ring over the Altyre burn, flanked by narrow single flood arches. The eastern extension from 1863 includes a further basket-arched ring, which is connected to the earlier bridge by a projecting bowed buttress that has a crenellated refuge and a mock arrow slit. Both sections of the bridge are linked by a bandcourse and a parapet added in 1863. The approximate spans are 6 feet by 20 feet by 6 feet over the burn and 16 feet over the railway line.
