Description
The Old Stable Tower at Altyre Estate is a mid-19th century structure, possibly incorporating earlier elements, and is the only remaining part of the former stables that were demolished around 1902. This three-storey, tower-like building faces southeast and features a segmental-headed archway at the base, which likely led to the inner stable court. The exterior is finished with harled walls and has tooled and polished ashlar margins and dressings.
On the ground floor, there is a large round-headed window with wooden moulded mullions and a transom. Above this, the first floor has a tripartite window with heavily moulded lugged angles to the architraves. Small round-headed lights are present in the centre of the gable and on the first floor of the side elevations, which are illuminated at the wallhead by a stack. The roof is slate, with projecting eaves that are connected at the gablets by wooden stays featuring pendant finials.
