Description
Altyre House is a large, two-storey house built around 1895 by W L Carruthers and enlarged in 1931. It has a long, rambling structure with gabled roofs, facing south with an entrance front to the east. The exterior is harled, featuring contrasting tooled ashlar margins and dressings.
The south garden front is irregular and wide, consisting of five bays that are connected by a continuous bandcourse between the ground and first floors. The entrance front on the east has a gabled design with an off-centre recessed entrance porch. At the rear, which faces the entrance drive, there are single gabled bays that are two storeys high and fronted with ashlar at the northeast corner.
The house includes some hoodmoulded windows, and the casement windows have multi-pane glazing. The roof is finished with stone slates, and there are coped ridge and wallhead stacks.
