Description

Bellvue, located at 37-39 Powdermill Brae in Gorebridge, is a villa built in the later 19th century. It has a single storey and basement with a three-bay rectangular plan. The exterior is made of coursed stugged sandstone with polished dressings, featuring long and short quoins, stop-chamfered reveals, and a dividing band course.

The southwest elevation is symmetrical, with the principal floor accessed by a central platt. It features a central doorpiece with a pediment supported by pilasters, carved consoles, and a timber door with a semi-circular fanlight, all reached by three steps. There are segmental arched bipartite windows with central keystones in the flanking bays, and regular fenestration in the basement.

The southeast elevation is asymmetrical, constructed from squared and snecked sandstone. It includes a round arched window with a central keystone at the center of the principal floor and a segmental arched window to the outer left. There is also a porch off-center to the left of the basement, which has a piended roof and two segmental arched windows.

The northeast elevation was not visible in 1997. The northwest elevation is symmetrical, featuring segmental arched windows on the outer left and right of the principal floor, and a porch at the center of the basement with a piended roof and two segmental arched windows.

The villa has had its original two-pane windows replaced with PVC sash and case windows. It has a purple-grey slate piended roof with lead ridges, cast iron rainwater goods, and coped stugged shouldered wallhead stacks with octagonal cans.

The boundary wall consists of rubble sandstone with angled semi-circular coping, topped with simple cast iron railings.
