Vaila, 19 Broomieknowe, Lasswade

Vaila, located at 19 Broomieknowe in Lasswade, is a classical house built in the earlier to mid-19th century, with a later addition at the rear. It is a single-storey, symmetrical, three-bay rectangular structure. The principal elevation features cream sandstone ashlar with polished sandstone dressings, while the side elevations are made of stugged grey ashlar sandstone. The rear elevation is constructed from snecked and stugged sandstone, with droved ashlar window tails.

The principal elevation includes a pilastered and corniced doorpiece at the center, featuring a deep-set timber panelled door topped with a two-pane rectangular fanlight. There is a window in each of the flanking bays.

The rear elevation has a square-plan, harled addition in the center with a modern window, and a modern timber door on the left side. There is a coped, rendered stack on the right side, with a window in the right bay and a modern window in the left bay.

The side elevations are blank. The property has 8-pane timber sash and case windows and a modern skylight on the northwest side. The roof is piended with grey slate, and the addition also has a slate roof. The house features deeply corniced ashlar octagonal wallhead stacks on both the southwest and northeast sides.
