Summerhouse, The Hill, 33 Broomieknowe, Lasswade

The Hill, located at 33 Broomieknowe in Lasswade, is an early 20th-century garden pavilion. It is a single-storey, rectangular structure with a red brick base and rear elevation, while the principal and side elevations are wood-framed and glazed. The pavilion features a low swept roof.

The northwest entrance elevation has five bays, divided horizontally at lintel height. The central bay contains a two-leaf door with timber panels on the lower section and glazed panels above, along with square small-pane panels above. The bays flanking the door have plain glass panels below and small-pane panels above. The outer left and right bays also have small-pane panels, which are shaped to fit the swept eaves above.

The northeast side elevation is a regular eight-bay design with a red brick base, featuring a window in each bay. The southeast rear elevation is a blank red brick wall with paired brick buttresses.

The pavilion has fixed windows with leaded small-pane stained glass panels on the entrance elevations. The side elevations have plain glass in the lower sections and multi-pane stained glass panels in the upper third. The low-swept gambrel roof has a trefoil motif set in the gable head, terracotta tiles, a castellated ridge with ball and spike finials, and deep swept eaves with exposed rafters. There are replacement plastic downpipes and gutters.

Inside, the pavilion features pine beaded lining boards covering the entire interior, along with a cast-iron circular vent in the center of the ceiling.

Additionally, there is a small hexagonal summerhouse from the early 20th century. This structure is timber-framed with dowel ribs and pointed-arched windows on the principal three sides. It has a pointed-arched door with timber panels below and a small-paned window above. The flanking bays also feature pointed-arched windows in the upper two-thirds, with timber panels below. The summerhouse has a hexagonal lead-covered roof topped with a ball finial and has modern gutters that have been replaced.
