Description

The Pavilion in Ironmills Park, Dalkeith, is a single-storey sports pavilion built in the earlier to mid-20th century. It features painted render with a deep brick base course on the south, west, and east elevations, and has raised cills.

On the south elevation, which is the principal facade, there are seven symmetrical bays. The central section has a three-bay bowed arcade that serves as a loggia or internal shelter, with square-headed openings and a blocking course raised over the centre bay. To the left and right of the centre, there are five-light windows, and the advanced outer bays also contain five-light windows, with doors located on the inner returns. A door is present in the penultimate bays.

The north elevation consists of twenty asymmetric bays arranged in groups of two, three, nine, and six. The centre features nine fenestrated bays that are advanced, with a block raised over three bays to the right. The remaining bays have regular fenestration, including two-light windows in two outer left bays.

The west elevation is blank, while the east elevation has a door on the left side. The pavilion has a small-pane glazing pattern in metal casements, with top-hopper and fixed windows. The south elevation has shutter grilles, and some doors have been blocked with metal sheeting. The roof is long and piended, with the outer bays also piended to the south, and it is covered with red tiles.
