216, 218 High Street, Dalkeith

216 and 218 High Street in Dalkeith is a later 18th century, two-storey, three-bay house. It features white painted harl and an ashlar surround to the door, with slightly raised concrete margins around the windows.

On the west elevation facing High Street, there is a door with a strip fanlight at the center. The outer bays have regular window placement, while the window in the center bay is slightly out of line to the left.

The north elevation has a window at the ground floor to the left and shows evidence of former buildings that were once adjoining.

The south elevation has a mutual gable with Nos 212 and 214 High Street, which is noted in a separate listing.

On the east elevation, there is a modern timber addition to the right, set behind a harled screen wall. To the left, there is a two-storey gabled rubble range running east, featuring irregularly placed doors and windows, several fixed small-pane windows, and brick repairs and stacks. The roofs are covered with grey and purple slates, including asbestos sheeting.

The sash and case windows have a 12-pane glazing pattern, with two small roof-lights on the west pitch and a modern dormer window on the right of the east pitch. The raised skew has a skewblock to the northwest, and there is a gablehead stack on the north side. The roofs are finished with purple-grey slates.
