Description
55 and 57 High Street in Aberdour is a 2-storey, 3-bay rectangular-plan house built in 1697, which has been altered and was formerly a shop. It features two single-storey extensions at the rear and has rendered, painted stone surrounds to its openings.
The northwest elevation is asymmetrical, with a centrally located door that has a letterbox fanlight above it. To the left, there is a window positioned close to street level, while the right side has a blocked shop front with an inserted window. The first floor has three evenly spaced windows located near the eaves.
The northeast elevation is attached to the properties at 43-51 High Street (odd numbers). The southeast elevation includes a narrow ground floor window positioned off-centre to the right, flanked by two modernised single-storey outshots on either side, which have varied modern window designs. On the first floor, there is a window close to the eaves on the far right, and another window on the far left. The wall to the left has been raised above the roofline to support a slightly overhanging attic extension that features a large modern window.
The southwest elevation is attached to 57 High Street. The building has a modern timber panelled door and predominantly features 4-pane timber sash and case windows. The northwest elevation has a pitched grey slate roof, with a heightened section on the right. The southeast elevation also has a pitched grey slate roof on the right, while the left side has a large modern extension with a tile-hung, pitched slate roof. There is a coped shared gable apex stack to the northeast, with clay cans.
The interior has been modernised.
