Description

This is an early 19th century building consisting of a large hollow square, originally stables and a steading, now partially converted into dwellings. The building is single-storey with a loft, and the north and south elevations are slightly taller than the east and west elevations. It is constructed of cherry-pointed rubble with tooled and polished ashlar dressings.

The south front is symmetrical with nine bays, the outer and central bays being slightly advanced. A tall, central, round-headed archway leads to an inner court. To the right is an original three-bay dwelling with a central door, and to the left is a three-window block. All windows are set in shallow, round-headed ashlar recesses with small loft windows above, linked by cill bands; the central loft window is smaller. Tall, round-headed arches formerly led to carriage houses in the outer bays, and these are now partially blocked, with a multi-pane window to the left and double-leaf garage doors to the right.

The west range has been converted for residential use and features a centre glazed French window sheltered by a piended verandah supported by a pair of Roman Doric columns, flanked by square-headed windows. At the rear (north) are two doorways, slit vents and loft openings. Within the court, the entrance to the west wing dwelling features a door piece using re-used balusters to support a cornice, flanked by windows, some of which are set in former stable doorways.

The windows are fitted with multi-pane glazing, with dummy intersecting glazing to the south front ground floor fenestration. Corniced and panelled ridge stacks rise from the building, and it has piended slate roofs. Modern garages are located within the inner court.
