Description

This is an early 19th century building, a large hollow square that originally served as stables and steading, and which has since been partially converted into dwellings. The building is single-storey with a loft, and is constructed of cherry pointed rubble with tooled and polished ashlar dressings.

The symmetrical South front has nine bays, with the outer and centre bays slightly projecting. A tall, round-headed archway is centrally located, providing access to an inner court. To the right of the archway is a three-bay dwelling with a central door, and to the left is a three-window block. All windows are set within shallow, round-headed ashlar recesses, with smaller loft windows above, all connected by cill bands; the central loft window is smaller than the others. Tall, round-headed arches were originally used for carriage houses in the outer bays, and are now partially blocked, with a multi-pane window on the left and double garage doors on the right.

The West range has been converted for residential use, with a central glazed French window sheltered by a piended verandah supported by a pair of Roman Doric columns. Flanking the French window are square-headed windows. The rear (North) elevation has doorways, slit vents, and loft openings.

Within the courtyard, the entrance to the West wing dwelling has a doorpiece incorporating re-used balusters to support a cornice, with flanking windows set in former stable doorways. The windows retain multi-pane glazing, with dummy intersecting glazing to the south front ground floor. The roof is covered with slate and features corniced and panelled ridge stacks. Modern garages are located within the inner court.
