Description

This early 19th century range forms a large hollow square, originally comprising stables and a steading, now partially converted into residential dwellings. The building is single-storey with a loft, and constructed of cherry-pointed rubble with tooled and polished ashlar dressings.

The south front is symmetrical, with nine bays, the outer and central bays slightly advanced. A tall, central round-headed archway leads to an inner court. To the right is a three-bay dwelling with a central door, and to the left is a three-window block. All ground-floor windows are set within shallow, round-headed ashlar recesses, with small loft windows above, linked by cill bands; the central loft window is smaller. Tall, round-headed arches formerly housed carriage entrances in the outer bays, now partially blocked - to the left, a multi-pane window to a dwelling, and to the right, double-leaf garage doors.

The west range has been converted for residential use, featuring a central glazed French window sheltered by a piended verandah supported by a pair of Roman Doric columns, flanked by square-headed windows. The rear (north) elevation has doorways, slit vents, and loft openings. Within the court, an entrance to a wing dwelling has a doorpiece incorporating reused balusters to support a cornice, flanked by windows, some of which are set in former stable doorways.

Multi-pane glazing is used throughout, with dummy intersecting glazing to the south front ground floor. The building has corniced and panelled ridge stacks and piended slate roofs. The inner court contains modern garages.
