Description

This is a late 18th century gazebo, originally associated with Belladrum House. It comprises a small, two-storey round tower and a single-storey wing. The tower is heavily rusticated and constructed of rock-faced boulder rubble with tooled ashlar dressings and horizontal bands. The north-facing side features an entrance with an ogee-headed architrave and a square-headed hoodmould, similar detailing to the two ground floor windows, and two oculi windows set into a horizontal band course. Further ashlar band courses alternate with rows of heavy rubble. The tower has a crenellated wallhead and wallhead stack.

A simple rectangular wing adjoins the tower, retaining traces of a piended roof. The interior is gutted and in a poor state of repair.

By 1794, Major Fraser of Belladrum had been planting trees for over 30 years, and the gazebo is situated on a slope overlooking Beauly, at the edge of these plantations. It was likely built for scenic rides and walks through the woodland.
