Description

This is an early 19th century building, a large hollow square that originally served as stables and a steading, now partially converted into dwellings. The building is constructed of cherry pointed rubble with tooled and polished ashlar dressings.

The South elevation is symmetrical with nine bays, the outer and central bays slightly projecting. A tall, central round-headed archway provides access to an inner court. To the right is an original three-bay dwelling with a central doorway, and to the left, a three-window block. All windows are set in shallow round-headed ashlar recesses with small loft windows above, linked by cill bands; the centre loft window is smaller. Tall, round-headed arches, formerly for carriage houses, are in the outer bays, now partially blocked—to the left a multi-pane window to a dwelling, and to the right, double-leaf garage doors.

The West range has been converted to residential use and features a central glazed French window sheltered by a piended verandah supported by a pair of Roman Doric columns, flanked by square-headed windows. The rear (North) elevation has two doorways, slit vents, and loft openings.

Within the courtyard, the entrance to the West wing dwelling has a doorpiece incorporating re-used balusters to support the cornice, flanked by windows set in former stable doorways. Multi-pane glazing is used throughout, with dummy intersecting glazing to the south front ground floor windows. Corniced and panelled ridge stacks are present, and the roofs are piended and slate-covered. Modern garages are found within the inner court.
