Description

East Lodge, dating to circa 1840, is a single-story gate lodge with a dormerless attic, built in a three-bay T-plan. The lodge is constructed of coursed rubble with tooled sandstone ashlar dressings. The front, facing east towards the driveway, is asymmetrical, featuring an off-centre door located in a re-entrant angle. To the right (east) of the door is a two-light window, and to the left (west) is an advanced gable with a crowstepped design. This gable incorporates a canted oriel window on the ground floor, above which is a small attic window in the gable itself. A similar oriel window and attic window are found in the east gable. The west return elevation features a pair of two-light windows. All windows retain cusped wooden frames, and most openings have decorative hoodmoulds; some lattice pane glazing remains.

The crowstepped gables include attenuated scroll skewputts, stumpy square gable apex finials with ogee caps and balls, and a cluster of three diagonally-set square ashlar stacks at the roof ridge junction. The roof is slate covered. A later lean-to extension has been added to the rear. Flanking the carriage entrances are pairs of square ashlar gate piers, connected by coped rubble walling. There are no gates present.
