4 Janet Street, Thurso

4 Janet Street in Thurso is an early 19th century, two-storey house with an attic, featuring a symmetrical three-bay design. The front is made of tooled ashlar with polished ashlar dressings, although much of it has been repaired with render. The flanks are harled, and there is a large modern two-storey addition at the rear.

The centre bay is barely recessed and has a corniced central door, which is flanked by channelled ashlar detailing. The first floor outer bays contain tripartite windows with blind side lights and cill bands. The outer bays are defined by long and short quoins, with a first-floor window in the southwest gable and a small central attic window in each gable. There are two late 19th century piended dormers with bipartite windows and a mix of two- and four-pane glazing. Some bracketed detailing on the eaves cornice remains, and the end stacks have been renewed. The front has a slate roof, while the rear features composite tiles.

The property is enclosed by high coped rubble garden walls that front both Janet Street and Brabster Street.
