1 Janet Street, Thurso

1 Janet Street in Thurso is a house built between 1800 and 1810. It is a two-storey building with an attic and features a wide three-bay design. The exterior is made of tooled ashlar stone with polished ashlar dressings and rusticated quoins. The front elevation is painted, while the northeast gable and rear are constructed from rubble. The ground floor masonry has been repaired with rendering that mimics ashlar.

The entrance is a round-headed doorway with a keystone, set within a shallow pilastered and corniced doorpiece. It includes a fanlight and a double-leaf door. The first-floor windows are shorter and have blind cruciform motifs in the outer bays, with shallow round-headed niches flanking the central window. There are two flat-roofed canted dormers. The northeast gable features three ground floor windows, with the outer ones blocked, and three smaller windows on the first floor, plus a diminutive attic window in the center. All first-floor windows have 12-pane glazing and are connected by a cill band, while the ground floor windows have four-pane glazing. The house has corniced end stacks and a slate roof.

To the left of the house, there is a pilastered screen wall with a blocked door, a window, and a slapped garage door.
