Description

The War Memorial located in Sir John's Square, Thurso, was sculpted by Percy Portsmouth around 1920. It features a tall bronze figure of a female warrior who is protecting a child with her right hand while holding a sword aloft in her left hand. The figure stands on a plinth made of tooled ashlar, which is inscribed and has a stepped base.
