Description
The War Memorial in Ladyhill Park, located adjacent to the park gates at the intersection with Allerton Road, is a notable structure created by sculptor Harold Brownsword in 1922. It features an unusually good bronze figure group, depicting a Madonna-like figure supporting the half-naked body of a dead soldier, reminiscent of the Pieta. To the left, a naked youth balances the composition. The figures emerge from a rock, with the soldier's arms resting at the foot. This entire scene is set on a corniced pedestal made of ashlar.
