Description

Fortrose Free Church, built between 1895 and 1898 by John Robertson, is a decorated Gothic structure located on High Street in Fortrose. The church is constructed of snecked rubble with ashlar dressings and features a broad, five-bay rectangular layout, with the fifth bay designed as a quasi-transept.

The southeast gable is accentuated with pinnacled buttresses and includes a gabled entrance porch beneath a four-light window. At the southeast end, there is an apsidal projection on the right and a four-stage tower on the left, which has octagonal pinnacled buttresses at the angles of the upper two stages and is topped by a tall octagonal spire.

The flanks of the church are buttressed and contain two-light windows. Inside, the church retains its original fittings, including a bowed gallery front. Additionally, there are polygonal gate piers and iron railings surrounding the property.
